Class Visitors

This week, we have been so lucky to have amazing visitors in our class!  On Tuesday, we had two fabulous Year 8 ladies spend the day with us! We had so much fun spending the day with Jazelle and Javana!

Jemma, Peni, Tipi, and Bryston were working very hard to learn their reading words.

Jazelle and Javana participated in our Soccer lesson, too! 

On Wednesday, we had some special friends from Class 20 come and colour with us after lunch.  We all read our books together before we went home!

Art Attack: Mixing Colours

During our writing on Thursday, we took some time to explore with paint colours.  Mrs. Moala put two colours of paint into a plastic bag, and we were able to take turns "mushing" the paint around the bag.  We were so surprised to see what happened!

Next week, we will be using the paint colours we created to paint our very own Colour Wheels!

Art Attack! Day 1

This term the students at Pt. England are working under the theme "Art Attack" and Class 24 (Team 1) is going to be exploring the question, "What does the river really look like?"

To kick start our very own Art Attack Class 24 spent some time today thinking about the Pt. England Reserve and the river that runs alongside our community.  Students made mental pictures before sharing what they remembered with the class.  They were then asked to do a pencil drawing of the river.

Bryston and Leah were sharing their work with each other while Teingoa remained focused on his drawing.

Terrific Thursday!

Today, we started out with our Star Student, Kharizma, reading her very own book to our class.  She did a fantastic job, and we loved how she showed us the pictures on each page!

We were even very lucky to have two of our school's ambassadors spend the day with us!  We really enjoyed having Jordan and Aaron in our room!  They helped us finish our writing, played math games with us, and they helped us with our reading!  We even spent some time showing them our Maori songs, and they showed us the motions to one of our special school haka songs, Powhiri Mai. Thanks for being so wonderful Jordan and Aaron!  We hope you come back to help us learn again soon!

How Many Sticks Are You Tall?

In Class 24, we have been talking about different ways to measure things.  Today, we decided we could measure how tall we are using Mrs. Moala's cool ice block sticks!

We even learnt what 1/2 meant because a whole stick was too much for some people's heights!

Cross Country

All term Team 1 has been practising and preparing for our school Cross Country race that took place this past Thursday afternoon!  We were so excited to run against each other all the way around the big field!  We even got to run in and out of the back gates by the horses that live behind our school.  We did so well, and we know that we are ALL Champions!

Presents from the USA!

Class 24 had so much fun using their new Dr. Suess pencils and animal stencils today!  They worked very hard to create their very own pictures.

Bryston, Sauma and Keyana are so excited to sharpen their new pencils!

We had to carefully punch out the shapes to make the stencils usable.

Students had to decide to use the outside of the shape or the inside of the stencil.

All of our drawing was done in pencil before we were able to add colour.

Persia even added an amazing "Zoo" archway across her paper all by herself!

Amazing Work!

Today, the students of Class 24 were writing a sentence for the first time on their own!  After looking at some pictures of a gymnast, and having a discussion with their partner, students shared what they saw in the pictures.  Some students even had fun on KidPix drawing their own pictures of gymnasts doing handstands, backflips, and jumping through the air!  

Bryston did an amazing job writing his very first sentence all on his own!

Friends and Fun

Class 24 works so hard learning new things everyday!  However, we still have time to build relationships and have lots of fun when we play with our friends!

Siu, Teingoa, and Keyana worked together to make this amazing structure.

We've had lots of rainy days this week, so here we are watching a fun cartoon during lunch.

Marvelous Maths!

Class 24 has been working very hard to read, write and count our numbers from 0-20.  Check out all the different ways we are learning in Class 24!

Sauma and Amelia put the numbers 1-20 in order and then counted out the correct number of sticks for each number.  They even sorted the sticks by colour while counting!

 Leah worked very hard to put the numbers 1-10 in order using our new puzzle.

Israel and Bryston were working hard to match the number with the right number of objects.

  

Persia and Kharizma are such clever girls!  While colouring their maths pages, they decided to sort their crayons by colour!

Peni is working hard learning to write double digit numbers.

Keep up the good work Class 24!  Mrs. Moala is so proud of you!
