Matariki Tree Planting

During our trip to Te Oro, for some Matariki fun, we were gifted a Manuka tree to plant somewhere on our school grounds. Mrs. Moala thought it would be a good idea to have a Team 3 planting ceremony to kick off our school Matariki Day celebration on the last day of Term 2.

So, after the school assembly the students from Team 3 gathered on the deck of the Whare Ako with Mr Jacobson and we heard from some of the Team 3 students all about the importance of the Manuka tree. We then sang our new favourite waiata "Purea Nei" while the tree was placed in the ground and covered by one student from each class.

Now, we can journey with this special tree and watch it grow as we continue our years at Pt England School. One day, we may even come back with our own children (or grandchildren!) and tell them all about our speical manuka tree and the planting ceremony we held.

Here is a pitcure of the students who spoke and planted the tree during the ceremony.

Painting Planets

Mrs. Heyworth, our amazing student teacher, had us describe our very own planets this week for our writing task. Then, we were able to paint our planet to display in our classroom. We had so much fun painting and our planets came out so colourful and unique.

Paper Airplane Challenge

This week, we had a paper airplane challenge during class today and it was so much fun!  Mrs. Moala put us onto teams to make our airplanes and then we took turns flying them across the room.  Which airplane design do you think will go the furthest?

Year 3 Library Visit

This week, the year 3 students on Team 3 were invited to the Glen Innes Library to learn about and explore Cook Island artifacts from the Auckland Museum. Thank you Mrs. Tumahai for this amazing video of our experience, and a BIG thanks for having the Room 21 Year 3s join your class.

Distance Learning 2021 v2

We are now at the end of Week 5 of Term 1, and we have completed our first full week of Distance Learning. We have had heaps of fun learning from home and we have enjoyed our daily Google Meets. Each Meet begins with a karakia (school prayer) and usually one of the teachers lead us in a fun game. Sometimes we have to run around and find things in our home, and other times we have to answer quiz questions in the chat box. It is so fun to be silly and laugh with everyone from Team 3.

Then, another teacher shares with us our learning for that specific day from our class site. Next, we are able to share the learning that we completed from the day before. Sometimes the teachers give 'shout outs' to students that they have seen working hard from home. Lastly, we are given any updates or reminders from our teachers. Since this is the first year that the Year 4 students are using Chromebooks in class, we are hearing lots of reminders about how to care for our device while we are learning from home.

The best day was on Thursday because we had 49 people on our Google Meet!  The teachers found out afterwards that some students weren't allowed to join our Meet because we had maxed out the allocated number of people.
