Group Drawing Projects

Today, we had the opportunity to work in a small group to design, draw, and colour a scenic picture of our choice.  First, we had to sit with our group and decide together what our picture would be.  Then, we worked together, using pencils and stencils, to draw our amazing scenes.  When we were finished drawing, we had another team decision to make.

We had to decide what we were going to use to colour our pictures with. We could choice either "skinny" crayons, "fat" crayons, or oil pastels.  Of course, we ALL picked oil pastels!  We had so much fun working in our groups, and we even learnt that we could use a tissue to blend the oil pastels together!

Art Attack! Day 1

This term the students at Pt. England are working under the theme "Art Attack" and Class 24 (Team 1) is going to be exploring the question, "What does the river really look like?"

To kick start our very own Art Attack Class 24 spent some time today thinking about the Pt. England Reserve and the river that runs alongside our community.  Students made mental pictures before sharing what they remembered with the class.  They were then asked to do a pencil drawing of the river.

Bryston and Leah were sharing their work with each other while Teingoa remained focused on his drawing.

Kharizma and Keyana were working hard on their drawings!

Cherish put forth excellent effort in her beach drawing.
Kauri and Israel were trying their best to recreate the river in their drawings.

How Many Sticks Are You Tall?

In Class 24, we have been talking about different ways to measure things.  Today, we decided we could measure how tall we are using Mrs. Moala's cool ice block sticks!

Measuring with Sticks from Team 1 PES on Vimeo.

Leah and Bryston are counting Kauri's sticks

Victoria is taking a break while Sauma sees how tall she is!

We had to measure Kauri twice!
This time Exodus T and Peni are seeing how tall Kauri is!

Keyana is being measured by Leah, and Bryston is trying to join in too!
How many sticks tall are you?  Come visit us in Class 24 and maybe we'll measure you, too!
We even learnt what 1/2 meant because a whole stick was too much for some people's heights!

Cross Country

All term Team 1 has been practising and preparing for our school Cross Country race that took place this past Thursday afternoon!  We were so excited to run against each other all the way around the big field!  We even got to run in and out of the back gates by the horses that live behind our school.  We did so well, and we know that we are ALL Champions!
Check out TEAM 1 ready to run!
"On Your Mark..." The boys are ready!
"Get Set..." The girls are ready!

GO!!!!

We don't have any pictures of us running, but we did a great job showing our versions of the race on KidPix!

Presents from the USA!

Class 24 had so much fun using their new Dr. Suess pencils and animal stencils today!  They worked very hard to create their very own pictures.

Bryston, Sauma and Keyana are so excited to sharpen their new pencils!

Working hard to outline their animal shapes using the new stencils.

Exodus S. and Cherish both have blue pencils!

We had to carefully punch out the shapes to make the stencils usable.

Students had to decide to use the outside of the shape or the inside of the stencil.

All of our drawing was done in pencil before we were able to add colour.

Persia even added an amazing "Zoo" archway across her paper all by herself!
Be sure to check back another day to see some of our finished products!

Amazing learning and Visitors

Class 24 is so smart!  We have been playing a fun maths game on our iPads called Slide, and we are getting so good at recognising our numbers using fingers and dots.  We had some special visitors from all over New Zealand visit our class today, and they joined in our game.  Israel and Peni are so smart, they were able to beat the visiting teachers!  Amazing job boys!

Peni and Israel playing Slide with our visiting teachers.
Siu and Cherish were both so proud of the sentences they wrote yesterday, and they wanted to share them on our blog.  Amazing job Siu and Cherish!

Siu is so proud of the sentence he wrote all by himself!

"The astronaut is on the moon."

Cherish is so proud of the sentence she wrote and the picture she drew to go with it!

"Dora is jumping."
