Group Drawing Projects

Today, we had the opportunity to work in a small group to design, draw, and colour a scenic picture of our choice.  First, we had to sit with our group and decide together what our picture would be.  Then, we worked together, using pencils and stencils, to draw our amazing scenes.  When we were finished drawing, we had another team decision to make.

   We had to decide what we were going to use to colour our pictures with. We could choice either "skinny" crayons, "fat" crayons, or oil pastels.  Of course, we ALL picked oil pastels!  We had so much fun working in our groups, and we even learnt that we could use a tissue to blend the oil pastels together!

Art Attack! Day 1

This term the students at Pt. England are working under the theme "Art Attack" and Class 24 (Team 1) is going to be exploring the question, "What does the river really look like?"

To kick start our very own Art Attack Class 24 spent some time today thinking about the Pt. England Reserve and the river that runs alongside our community.  Students made mental pictures before sharing what they remembered with the class.  They were then asked to do a pencil drawing of the river.

Terrific Thursday!

Today, we started out with our Star Student, Kharizma, reading her very own book to our class.  She did a fantastic job, and we loved how she showed us the pictures on each page!

We were even very lucky to have two of our school's ambassadors spend the day with us!  We really enjoyed having Jordan and Aaron in our room!  They helped us finish our writing, played math games with us, and they helped us with our reading!  We even spent some time showing them our Maori songs, and they showed us the motions to one of our special school haka songs, Powhiri Mai. Thanks for being so wonderful Jordan and Aaron!  We hope you come back to help us learn again soon!

How Many Sticks Are You Tall?

In Class 24, we have been talking about different ways to measure things.  Today, we decided we could measure how tall we are using Mrs. Moala's cool ice block sticks!

We even learnt what 1/2 meant because a whole stick was too much for some people's heights!

Our Writing Process

Class 24 is becoming amazing story tellers, and they are doing an excellent job learning how to put their ideas into sentences on paper.  Yesterday, Mrs. Moala captured portions of our writing lesson to show how well we are doing.

First, our class "used our own brains" to look at the funny monkey picture Mrs. Moala showed us. Then, we were allowed to "talk with our buddies" and share our ideas about the picture.  After sharing with our buddy, we had a whole-class sharing time.

During our class discussion, Mrs. Moala helped us create a writing web.  The writing web helps us with special words when we are writing our own sentences about the picture.

When we finished writing our sentences, we read them aloud to Mrs. Moala, and she even recorded some of us!

Reading Celebration!

Class 24 is so excited to celebrate the reading of Leah, Teingoa, and Israel this week!  All three of these students love reading their books, and are always eager to get a new story to read.  They have also been working very hard to learn the words on their reading lists. Great job guys!  We are so proud of you!

Friends and Fun

Class 24 works so hard learning new things everyday!  However, we still have time to build relationships and have lots of fun when we play with our friends!

Weekly Writing

On Monday, Mrs. Moala read the story, "Echo the Dolphin" to Class 24.  Echo is a sweet dolphin who is always a good friend.  He and his friends always help each other get out of tough situations, and have great adventures together.

After reading the story, our class had a great discussion about what it means to be a good friend.  It was decided that since everyone in Class 24 are such great friends, we should write a story about it!

Persia, Leah, and Keyana did such an amazing job copying their story off the board!  They each made sure that they drew a beautiful picture to match the story that we had written showing their favourite way to play with their friends from Class 24.  The girls were able to show their amazing confidence and share their writing with Miss Wild and Class 21!  Miss Wild was so impressed she gave them each a special sticker to put in their writing book!

Marvelous Maths!

Class 24 has been working very hard to read, write and count our numbers from 0-20.  Check out all the different ways we are learning in Class 24!

Sauma and Amelia put the numbers 1-20 in order and then counted out the correct number of sticks for each number.  They even sorted the sticks by colour while counting!

 Leah worked very hard to put the numbers 1-10 in order using our new puzzle.

Israel and Bryston were working hard to match the number with the right number of objects.

  

Persia and Kharizma are such clever girls!  While colouring their maths pages, they decided to sort their crayons by colour!

Peni is working hard learning to write double digit numbers.

Keep up the good work Class 24!  Mrs. Moala is so proud of you!

Learning Double Digits!

Class 24 has been hard at work learning how to count to 20, and we have been learning how to write our numbers.  This week we learnt how to write the numbers 11 and 12, and we are so excited to share our learning with you!

Exodus T. was able to count 12 teddy bears.
