Film Festival Recount

MANAIAKALANI FILM FESTIVAL
By Lizara Year 8

Are you a part of the Manaiakalani family? Well Manaiakalani is a place where people enjoy watching movies and experiencing what other schools do compared to the school you go to. Usually every year my school “Pt England” go with “Tamaki College” but this year we are going with a school that has never been to one of these before. Which is “Ruapotaka primary and intermediate school”.

Some schools usually just make 10-15 movies but our school makes over 20 movies because it is based on each class room. So every year their school principals or teachers pick 2 people from their school to present in front of everyone to show and tell what their movie will be about. And my class presenters were me and one of my best friends Quasia. Manaiakalani has always been held in one place which is in “Sylvia Park at the cinemas”.

As we all sat on the mat in the street with our bags at 12.30pm, and our teachers trying to tell us how we need to act normal and do the right thing by striving to succeed in the cinemas. We all made our way to the buses that were waiting outside for us and we made our way to Sylvia Park to watch amazing and creative movies.

As we made our way there everyone besides the presenters had to sit in the front to get ready to present and show off our movie that we created as a class. Halfway through the movie this Tamaki College girl named “Gloria” presented a short film that shows everyone who is a year 8 and is going to Tamaki college can get a scholarship. When we finished watching all the movies after about an hour and a half I honestly think that room 2 had an awesome movie based on how you need to keep clean and always wash your germs away before touching someone or something.

As soon as we finished going to Manaiakalani we made our way back to the buses to go back to school. And as we went back to school we started doing our practice for the year 8 prize giving performance. I honestly think that this year was the best year ever but I would like to be a presenter for College again because it was so much fun this year especially facing my fair.

After our digizen lesson with Ms Kyla, we were able to create our own and post them to our blogs.  Check out some of our submissions and click on the link to leave us a comment!

What makes a good digizen? Today in Math Miss Kyla came to talk to us about what makes a good digizen. What is a digizen? A digizen is a online good citizen, and what's a citizen? A citizen is a good person to there own country.

Anyways this photo is a good digizen. The face shows it's a positive person, the bubble is there because they think twice, the shirt represents our school, the arms are shown that they are strong and the arrows show that they are choosing to take the right path and leave good foot prints.

Mao

Today in the middle block we worked with Miss Kyla, we were told to make a person on google drawings and explain what it means. So this is my person the things I drew down are curls. a smiley face, triangle, heart and two arrows.

The curls represent what you press on which means you have to be careful what you press on or watch while online, the smiley face represents kindness while your online, the triangle represents truthfulness which means you have to always be true to others, the heart represents love which means you always have to show love and respect to others while you are online and the arrows represents respect which means you have to always show respect towards others.

Tihi

My nose means that he is a brain stormer.
MY ear's mean That He shows love to the people around him.
my hat means That every one is a nice big star in his hart.

What Makes a Good Digizen?

Today Ms Kyla, from Tamaki Primary, came in to help us with a CyberSmart lesson.  She had us discuss two very important questions:

What makes a good citizen?
What makes a good digizen (online citizen)?

As part of her lesson, she taught us how to create own very own digizens using Google Draw.

Then, it was our turn to make our own digizens.  Check out our blogs to see our very own creations!

Happy Birthday Mrs. Tele'a!

Happy Birthday Mrs. Tele'a
By: Lizara

Today is the day when our most cleverest teacher in all of team 5, will be having the most wonderful day of her life, at Pt England school. So all the students in the year 7 and 8 block will be giving her a secret surprise when the clock strikes 10 past 9 (9:10). We were split up into our literacy groups (writing and reading groups) and waiting for the, “Siva Samoa”.

“Ohh” I didn’t tell you what and who the celebration was all about, and why our teacher Mrs Tele’a, was going to have to best day of her life. We sang the happy birthday song to her in the morning with her gifts, which was a delicious chocolate cake, a bottle of wine that she was a loud to drink at school if she wanted to and a packet of lollies.

“Yeeehaaa, cheer hoooo” said the boys who were starting up the samoan dance, or as I should say the siva samoa. It was a cultural performance, that all the teachers joined part of it even though 1 of our teachers didn’t know it, but 2 of our teachers were just videoing the performance to cherish this moment from then and now on.

Mr Wiseman and Miss Peato joined in with the siva samoa. Some of the students joined in, my best friend Quasia was doing the samoan cultural dance as well as everyone else. Miss Peato lay down with her tummy facing the ground and then Mrs Tele’a stood on top of her and jumped over. Then everyone just carried on dancing, until the song finished. It was the most happiest time of the day even though it was raining.

Suddenly the song finished and then everyone was clapping and saying, singing “happy birthday to you”. Then everyone went back into the literacy classrooms ready for our writing task. Hoping that we were not going to be distracted by the awesome performance that was held for Mrs Tele’a.

Testing Week at Pt. England

This week Pt. England students are testing in all of their classes.  The year 7 and 8 students took their maths tests today during our middle block.  This is a very special year for testing at Pt. England School because the students are taking their tests on their own devises (Chromebooks for most of the Team 5 students) for the first time.  The amazing mathematicians in Mrs. Moala's Maths Class worked hard to do their best at the test!

I am so proud of all of you!  -Mrs. Moala

An Amazing Start to 2015!

I am so excited to share how amazing the students in Room 4 are!  We have had an amazing start to the 2015 school year, and we are doing a fabulous job demonstrating what it means to be awesome Pt. Englanders!

Team 5 is having periodic competitions to earn points through their behaviour, and implementation of the key competencies.  Our first prize giving was today, and the points cut off was after our school assembly.  I am so proud of my Class 4 students for being always being "in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing" during the past two weeks!
The girls enjoying our prize hot chips!

The boys enjoying our prize chips!

We had an excellent time at our first Team Softball Tournament.   We played against Mrs. Tele'a and Class 3.   Both teams showed heaps of team spirit and played tough, but the amazing students in Class 4 took out the win, 5-3!
A BIG thank you to Ms V for umpiring for us, and to Mrs. Va'afusuaga for all you help

Team 5 celebrates the week that has past, by coming together every Friday afternoon to finish off the week as a unified team.  We really enjoy singing songs together, and Mr. Wiseman has been teaching us the words to some of our favourite songs.
