Christmas CRE with Mrs. Clarke

Today, we had our final CRE session with the amazing Mrs. Clarke and we were so blessed by her sharing with us the Christmas story.  It was lots of fun because she made it so interactive.  We were able to wear costumes and act out parts of the story.

Devante and Leah as Joseph and Mary (holding baby Jesus of course!)
The 3 Wisemen following the star to find the King of Kings.

Musical Madness Animations

This term, as part of our school wide topic inquiry "Musical Madness" the students of Team 3 worked together to animate some of their favourite songs.

The students and staff at Pt England School are definitely blessed!  We have the gorgeous Pt England Reserve/Beach right next door, and we took off to have our school picnic for the whole day. Once we arrived at the beach, students were able to play in the sand, or stay up on the reserve and play rugby, cricket, volleyball.  Students were also able to hang out with their friends and play on the playground.  After being there for a short time, it was time for Team 3 to have their swimming block!  The teachers made a human circle and the kids had a blast swimming and splashing around with their friends.

Film Festival Love...

Today, the students of Room 11 spent some time responding to the many comments we have received on our blog for our 10th Annual Manaiakalani Film Festival  movie submission.  The students were so excited to see so many amazing comments from students and classes all over New Zealand on our blog post for our movie "Just Dance".  They had a lot of fun responding to the comments and checking out the blogs of the students who shared their URLs with us.

One of the links shared with us was from LH1 at Ormiston Primary School.  We were so excited when we checked out their blog and found a video of their students dancing along to our Just Dance video!  Awesome job LH1!

Do you think your class can copy our movies?  If you do, let us know and we will happily share your video on our blog as well!

Pav Race Day

Today we have been sneaking into the field to race so we could write about the race.So first we had to wait for Mr Moran to let us go line up. So Mr Moran first  called out every signal group at the right time so everyone would not get pushed. So next when everyone was outside we had to put on our shoe or go bear feet. Then when  everyone  was outside we lined up in 2 lines one boy line and one girl line. Then Everyone was ready to sneak pass the class. So first before I lined up I felt nervous so I was shaking with fear but I still had to run for our writing. Then we all walked down quietly to room 17 and sat on the concrete and waited for our turns so first Mr Moran counted each girl and boy. After he was done counting us he spite each girl and told them to get in a lane. So first the others girls raced then

Finally it was my lines turn to run so I stayed normal and went into a line. Then I waited for Mr Moran to clap a weird thing it was like 2 blocks sticked together but not with tape so when he clapped the 2 blocks together I ran as fast as I could and I used all the energy I had left but I did not make

It i did not come 1st or 2d or 3d or 4th but I did not care I tried my best but to me I was close but I did not win and I felt good because I ran and I have not run like that in ages since my leg got really sour for weeks
So then it was the boys turn and they did a great job to me then when everyone was done doing the race it was close to the final race so the girls who won the race had to race each other and then some of the girls who won the othe race did not make it next it was the boys turn and some did not make it

Finally it was the final race girls vs boys the race was called the sprint race next when everyone who was racing  was getting ready then Mr Moran told us a secret he whispered the secret to us and told us that its not gonna be a sprint race it is going to be a crab race so first Mr Moran told the other kids who are going to race and they were like what so also Mr Moran was gonna race with them so even doe he was a bit older then everyone he let some one else do the blocks so

At last everyone was finish racing and the winner was Mr Moran and after that we went back to class to do this writing...see you later.

NED reminds us all to:
1. Never give up
2. Encourage others
3. Do your best

Not only did we get to hear all about what NED stands for, but we were also able to see some pretty cool yo-yo tricks.  Students were even given a chance to purchase their very own NED yo-yo to practice their own tricks.

Cook Island Language Week

As part of Cook Island Language Week, we had an amazing group of students perform during our school assembly today.  It is always exciting to see our Pt. England students sharing aspects of their cultures with others. In the Pav, we were mostly proud of our sweet Lydia not only for performing beautifully, but also for being brave enough to speak in one of the Cook Island languages to open their performance. However, both Mr Moran and Mrs. Moala had a great time dancing up on stage when they were selected to be part of the "Around the World" dance at the end of the performance.

CRE with Mrs. Clarke

Today the amazing students in Room 11 Maths spent some time after lunch with Mrs. Clarke learning about putting forth our best efforts in order to be the most successful person we can be.  Mrs. Clarke told us that we need to be sure to make good choices.

Mrs. Clarke introduced us to Wynton Rufer, an amazing NZ soccer player, who wanted to date a young lady named Lisa.  Lisa was a Christian and told Wynton that she would not go out with him because he was not making the best choices in his life.  This made Wynton change his ways, and he later became a follower of Jesus.  Lisa gave him another chance and the two are now happily married.
Wynton created a WYNRS academy that trains world class soccer players and world class citizens.

Mrs. Clarke showed us a video of Mr. Rufer persevering to keep a soccer ball off the ground and we were able to try it ourselves using a balloon.  Mr. Rufer is now the coach of the PNG soccer team and he wants his team to be good role models both on the field and off.

Term 3: Immersion Assembly

This term, the students at Pt. England School will be studying "The Guardians of the Galaxy."  The amazing students of Team 3 are going to be learning about why we have time and the seasons, as well as the awesome things happening in Space.

The teachers of Team 3 created a movie for the assembly showing "The Days of our Lives."

Te Taiao o Tamaki Celebration

Today students across Manaiakalani are sharing their learning about Te Taiao o Tamaki at the Te Oro Arts Centre in Glen Innes.

While back at school, the students of the Pav watched the live stream of the event and spent some time blogging about what they have seen.

Watching the live stream.

Blogging about what we have seen.

Some lucky students from the Pav were able to take a bus down to Te Oro and spend time looking at the various exhibits that each school put together.

We have really enjoyed learning about Te Taiao o Tamaki this term, along with the rest of the Manaiakalani cluster.

A Work of Art

As seen on Eva's Blog:

A part of Te Taiao o Tamaki our reading were reading a play called a work of art in the play some students found piles of rubbish at the park and diced to pick it up and put it in the bins unflinchingly the piles of rubbish were actually a piece of instillation art to remind people of what being a guardian of there community  just like we are learning about kaitiakitanga i nga wa katoua this year as a school we are the guardian of our environment next we read a new articular artist in  about artist in Auckland who had there installation art removed because someone thought that it was a pile of rubbish constructed by the homeless for shelter.

Looking at all our new Chromebook boxes we decided to make our own instillation art we had so much fun working together to create our very own sky tower using the Chromebook boxes.

Cree Ann: The River Talks

As seen on Cree Ann's Blog:

My whole class and the year 8s went down to the Creek so we can see people from different countries performing what talent they got and why we need to do to look after our lovely creek. At first, there was a man that introduced us to everybody that was performing. His name was Tamati and he was wearing waders so the yuck water didn’t get on him. When he was done introducing us to them,we watched this lady pretending to make a fire, so she can pretend to burn the  that lived in the river like, dead lady's dress but not for real. The lady that was making a fire was singing a scary song that I was kind of scared of, but Then she stopped and the other lady stopped dancing.then it was time to go to the next thing. The next thing we saw was a man and two ladies, talking about our river to see what we could do to help our river. So they sang a lovely song about the river. After that, we listened to the man that was talking about the fish and all the other stuff that lived in our river like ducks, but most importantly our kaimoana cause apparently they have been getting sick that's why we need to look after our kaimoana and all the other stuff that lived there.
Meanwhile, before we left the creek, we watched Mr Vogt do his speech about the weta hotels that we made. He said if you make one of these  the hang it on the harakeke bush because wherever you hang it the birds will see it and then eat them. { which is sad} but after that we watch these cook islander play the drums about the river. There sound effect  sounded AWESOME but then it was lunch time and we had to go back to school. It was so cool that I wanted to go again but we couldn't because they have to go to a diffrent school I think?

Special Visitors

Today, we were very blessed to have Mr. Moran's grandpa and his wife (Mr. Moran's special Aunty) come visit us in the Pav.  We really enjoyed showing them what Mr. Moran does everyday and they were both so excited to see the amazing way we learn, create and share using our Chromebooks at Pt. England School.  Hopefully, they come to visit again soon!

Showing Grandpa and Aunty how MathsWhizz works.

Singing a special Waiata for our visitors.

Whaea Saf joined us for our Waiata.

Maker Space Weta Hotels

The students of the Pavilion have been working with Mr. Vogt in our MakerSpace to create Weta Hotels that will be hung at Omaru Creek.  Here is Jane's recount paragraph of the procedure they followed as a class when making their hotels.

First, We had to put on gloves goggles & protective shoes. Then we went to go and cut the bamboo with a really sharp saw. After one person finished cutting they they put the saw on the table and give  the other people have a turn. After a while we started painted them black so when we put it in the harakeke it will blend in. Meanwhile Mr Vogt was drilling holes through the bamboo so we could put wire through the hole so we can hang it at the creek so the weta will have some where that bird can't eat them. Eventually we got to put the wire in it was kind of hard because we had to do a not and it was hard to bend.

Here is Mr. Vogt's presentation at the River Talks last week where he shared with those present about our amazing Weta Hotels that are starting to pop up around the creek.

Hanging the hotels in the bush at the creek.

2017 School Picnic

Today, was an amazing day!  The sun was shining and there weren't many clouds in the sky as the children from Pt. England School crossed through the side gate onto the Pt. England Reserve.  How blessed we are (as a school) to be so close to such a gorgeous reserve.  We had a great time swimming, playing sports, eating with our families, hanging out on the beach, singing, and dancing.  Another successful school picnic is in the books, and we are so pumped for the rest of the 2017 school year!

The Omaru Creek

The Omaru Creek
By: Jane M.

On friday Miss Moala's reading and writing class went to Omaru creek.

Before we left the pav Miss Teleso took the roll then we did the waiata then did our mihi then we got in two lines and off we went to Omaru creek.

To get to the creek we had to open the gate and walk through the yucky grass and we finally got to the creek.

At the creek we saw some pukekos dog poop and some bird poop to and lots of bushes and empty plastic bottles.

The most important thing I saw was all the fishes/eals were gone. Because some people
flushed some baby wipes down the toilet and some of the fishes/eals died.

So you have to be carefull what you flush down the toilet becuase it could wreck the envermint.

Bike Track Grand Opening

We had such an amazing celebration this morning at Pt. England School with the grand opening of our brand new bike track!  Some pretty amazing organisations worked very hard to help raise the funds to have a very cool bike track installed around our back field, and donate two containers full of bikes and helmets for our students to use.
We had a very cool school assembly this morning in front of the bike containers, and we were able to hear from people from the donating organisations.  Then, a group of students were invited to put on helmets, hop onto bikes and, after the big red ribbon was cut, ride around the track while everyone cheered.

The students of the Pavilion are so excited to try out our new bikes and bike track!  We just want to say thank you to everyone who helped to make it happen in our community!

Te Taiao o Tāmaki-Rubbish Pick Up

This morning, the students of Team 3 went on a walking adventure to the Pt. England Reserve.  We all met on the back field and walked through our school gate onto the gorgeous farm that borders our school.  After crossing the bridge, we took class pictures in front of Omaru Creek, which is currently drained of water for an environmental clean up procedure.

As we walked further onto the farm, the students of The Pav stopped along the way to pick up the small amount of rubbish we came across.

We quickly emerged onto the Pt. England Reserve and saw that one of our neighbouring horses was at the fence.  It was so fun to be so close to one of the horses we often watch from the school side of our fence.

Perhaps the best part of the morning was when we reached the playground and we were given some time to play with our friends from other classes.  However, the most rewarding was realising how clean our Reserve area was because we picked up such a small amount of rubbish.

Testing Has Begun!

This week the students at Pt. England School are taking a number of tests to provide some baseline data for their learning during the 2017 school year.  The students of The Pav are very excited because this is the first time that they are sitting their tests using their very own Chromebooks.

We are remembering to get a good night of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and to try our best at the test.

Side Note:  This is the 100th Blog Post for Mrs. Moala as a teacher at PES!

Te Reo Māori with Whaea Saf

Although today was the hottest day of the summer, the Maths students in Room 11 had an amazing Tuesday afternoon! After lunch, we met in the Whare Fono for our weekly Te Reo Māori lesson with Whaea Saf!  The students in the Pav love singing waiata and this week Whaea Saf taught us a new one for us to work on learning.  We are working very hard to be the leaders of our school and that includes being able to confidently sing all of our school waiata.

It was so hot and sticky so Whaea Saf let us have a "relaxed" mat session this afternoon.
